Wayne Higby

Wayne Higby (b. 1943) is a ceramic artist and educator. Since the 1970s his work has been dedicated to two forms: oval bowls and groups of covered boxes, though his work has ranged from vessel form to tile and sculpture.

He has worked and been recognized internationally for his artistry. The surfaces of his pieces are covered with landscape imagery from his childhood memories. He attended the University of Colorado, Boulder and received his M.F.A. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has taught at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Rhode Island School of Design, and currently teaches at Alfred University as a Professor of Ceramics. His work is in the collection of the Museum of Arts and Design, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and National Museum of American Art, among others.
