Make your own block-printed Valentine’s Cards!
Linoleum block printing workshop: 1 day (3 hour) workshop
Have you ever wanted to try your hand at making your own blockprinted note cards?
This afternoon course will introduce you to the basics of block printing, using linoleum blocks and oil-based inks. You’ll carve blocks and learn to register each color and hand-print them. At the end of the workshop you’ll have a set of a dozen hand-printed Valentine’s cards to send to your loved ones!
You will carve one block (4″ x 6”): an outline block. Then you will make an imprint from this block, to make a note card.
If you’d like, you can bring your own design or we can provide designs.
We’ll have fun exploring various carving tools and blocks and experiment with a variety of burnishing tools (a variety of baren discs and even wooden spoons!)
Materials and tools are provided. Come prepared to get your hands dirty with ink!

Yoshiko Yamamoto’s love of Japanese ukiyo-e informs her blockprint and letterpress art that she creates at The Arts and Crafts Press in Tacoma, WA. Letterpress printing is a relief process, the oldest form of printing, and Yoshiko is self-taught in the craft. Her style is inspired by the European Arts and Crafts movement (1880-1910) founded by William Morris which favored craft production over industrial manufacture and emphasized strong line-driven designs sourced from nature. Committed to creating things of beauty, art for her is a way of life.
