Artist Talk: Sandra Enterline

Saturday, August 27, 2016
3:00 – 4:00 PM

Award-winning jewelry artist Sandra Enterline will commence our Opening Reception for Politically Speaking: New American Ideals in Contemporary Jewelry by discussing her own sculptural jewelry, some of which is displayed in the exhibition.

Since graduating in 1983 from the Rhode Island School of Design, Sandra Enterline has been exploring form within the context of wearable, art jewelry. Her pieces are in the collections of both national and international museums. Enterline is currently a guest lecturer at universities in the San Francisco Bay Area, including the Academy of Art University and the California College of the Arts.

“‘Blind Driving’ is about the possibilities in not knowing where you are heading or what you are doing. As a practicing artist, I rely heavily on ‘blind driving’ to steer me into the most wondrous and political explorations of objects in daily life, from the rich amber hues of petroleum to the glass shards of a broken car window.”

Sandra Enterline, Diamond Web Necklace, 2012. Balancing organicism with an industrial edge, Enterline’s web is dotted with irregular diamond slices that shimmer and cast light on the wearer. Apertures and perforations are a signature design element throughout Enterline’s jewelry, as is the case with this pattern of suspended diamond encasements.
