Ramona Otto’s Found in America Exhibition
As summer begins with its line-up of patriotic holidays, the Craft in America Center will feature Los Angeles-based assemblage artist Ramona Otto’s Found in America series of American flags composed of vintage and recycled material. Otto takes found objects-anything from old action figures to plastic play food and magazine clippings- and makes witty and humorous sculptural statements about modern American life. Visual puns, word play and other spunky tricks are all in Otto’s bag. Her lively, vibrant flags are engaging and accessible to kids and adults alike. Grounded in American folk traditions, ultimately, Otto’s medium is memory, as told through the objects that move through our everyday life and that encapsulate the fabric of contemporary American life.
