Thursday, April 25, 2019
6:30-8pm
6:30pm: Light refreshments
7pm: Discussion begins
Join the Craft in America Center in discussing books relating to our current exhibition California Visionaries: Seminal Studio Craft, Featuring Works from the Forrest L. Merrill Collection.
We will be discussing the California Design catalog series and Objects: USA, both of which can be found in our library, which is open to the public Tuesdays- Saturdays from 12-6pm.
About the California Design catalogs:
These publications accompanied the California Design exhibitions curated by Eudorah M. Moore from the 1960’s through the 1970’s. The innovative photography in these catalogs documented the diverse and exciting objects by positioning them in California’s spectacular natural landscapes. This was a breakthrough moment for craft, art and design.

About Objects:USA: This survey of more than 300 craft-based artists working in various media across the US in 1970 is a compendium of key voices who shaped the studio craft movement in the 20th century. The book was written by Lee Nordness as an outgrowth of a 1969 Smithsonian exhibition organized by the S.C. Johnson Company.
All are welcome to visit our library to view copies of the books in advance. Please reserve your spot at rsvp@craftinamerica.org
