Crafting Cultural Narratives: Discussion with glass artist Jaime Guerrero and fiber artist Victor De La Rosa

Join us at the Craft in America Center for a discussion with glass artist Jaime Guerrero and fiber artist Victor De La Rosa. Each artist will present his body of work, followed by a discussion about expressing cultural narratives through handmade traditions. Both artists have works in California Handmade: State of the Arts on view at the Maloof Foundation through January 2016. This event is part of the California: State of the Arts Artist Talk and Events Program.

Jaime Guerrero is an L.A. based glass artist recognized for his figurative glass works and versatility in both sculpture and craft. His “Homies” series are iconic images of Chicano culture, representing people from the East Los Angeles neighborhood where Guerrero grew up. He studied at California College of Art and Crafts and he now teaches glass blowing to youth in South Los Angeles.

Victor De La Rosa works across a variety of media, including fiber and digital media, engaging projects that explore Latino identity. His Future Flags of America series re-interprets flags from the United States to reflect the growing Latino communities of the U.S.A. De La Rosa spent many successful years as an apparel, product, and textile designer. De La Rosa joined the Fine Arts faculty at San Francisco State University in 2006, and he earned MFAs from University of California, Davis and the Rhode Island School of Design.
