OPENING RECEPTION & TALK: CALIFORNIA VISIONARIES BY FORREST L. MERRILL March 2, 4pm

California Visionaries: Seminal Studio Craft, Featuring Works from the Forrest L. Merrill Collection
March 2, 2019, 4-6pm

Talk at 4pm with Forrest L. Merrill

Join us for the reopening of the larger Craft in America Center with this exhibition of mid-century seminal craft from the collection of Forrest L. Merrill. Having started collecting more than fifty years ago when California’s craft scene was burgeoning, Merrill watched the development of a movement as a supporter and friend to numerous artists from across the state. Merrill will speak about his memories, experiences, and discoveries from over the decades. Merrill’s vision for his collection, unified by his interest in the vessel as a primary form, includes pieces that are sometimes surprising or unexpected examples of artists work. Carol Sauvion will be interviewing Merrill about his collecting approach and passion for the handmade.

Reception to follow the conversation.

Reservations strongly encouraged to rsvp@craftinamerica.org
