Getty Multicultural Undergrad Internships

The intern will provide support and assist in various aspects of the outreach, promotion, and final stages of development and execution of Craft in America’s exhibitions, projects, and programming plans for Pacific Standard Time: Los Angeles/Latin America. The intern will participate in community engagement and communication with outside organizations, student groups, and art schools. In addition, the intern will be involved in research and generating, writing, translating, and editing web and social media content to support the organization’s programming, website, and documentary series. Fluency in written and spoken Spanish preferred.

The Getty Multicultural Undergrad Internship is intended for outstanding students who are members of groups underrepresented in museums and visual arts organizations, including but not limited to individuals of African American, Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific Islander descent.

Eligibility for the internships is limited to currently enrolled undergraduates who reside in or attend college in Los Angeles County. Students must have completed at least one semester of college by June 2017, and those who will complete their degree by September 1, 2017 are also eligible to apply. Candidates can be sought from all areas of undergraduate study and are not required to have demonstrated a previous commitment to the visual arts.

Craft in America is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the exploration, preservation and celebration of the handmade and its impact on our nation’s cultural heritage. The Craft in America Center is a public gallery, programmatic space, and library located on Third Street in the heart of Los Angeles. The Center is used for rotating contemporary craft exhibitions, educational outreach, research, lectures, book signings, and hands-on art workshops. The Center holds a focused collection of craft and art-oriented books, periodicals, and videos, in addition to a small permanent collection of objects. The Center is an extension of the Craft in America project, a Peabody Award-winning PBS documentary series since 2007.
