Studio Visits: Neptunes Glassworks and Ben Medansky Studio

A good number of the artists in our Crafting the Cocktail exhibition are local. It’s a boon in many ways,  not least because we get to pay studio visits and connect with the fascinating and motivated creatives in our community.

A couple weeks ago we visited Neptune Glassworks, founded by glass mastermind Uri Davillier in 2000. His dual background in Engineering and Fine Arts shines through his work, manifesting in a blend of sculptural and functional beauty. He shares his large studio with a team of artists, designers, and fabricators who, while all maintaining their own businesses, collaborate on projects. Neptune’s nightcap cups, for example, are housed in a wooden case that Uri’s studio-mate Scott, a woodworker, fabricates for him. It’s an incredible system. This very set, along with some glass-blown stirrers, are on view in Crafting the Cocktail.

Our next stop, just two minutes away, was Ben Medansky’s studio. Ben has a background in architecture and formed his studio in 2012. So many of his cups have an architectonic nature, a reflection of his strong design background. Two of his highly textured, feel-good tumblers are in the exhibition.

See below for snapshots from our visits.
