Filming at Alfred University

In February, the Craft in America crew visited Linda Sikora, potter and Professor of Ceramic Art/Division Head at Alfred University. We filmed Sikora’s careful process of making a spout and handle for a teapot.

Sikora shares her studio space with her husband and potter, Matthew Metz. We watched him throw a pitcher on the wheel, dip it in slip, and carve his drawing designs.

At Alfred University School of Ceramic Art, we watched Sikora interact with her graduate students and discuss their student exhibition. We also filmed an undergraduate sculpture class taught by Linda Sormin and an undergraduate pottery class taught by Matt Kelleher. Raw Materials Technician, Keith Simpson, demonstrated how the 3d printer can be used to create ceramic work.

We also filmed Wayne Higby, Professor of Ceramic Art & Director of the new Ceramics Art Museum and his masterpiece, “EarthCloud”. This piece is displaying in the Miller Performing Arts Center on campus. It is quite a sight to see in the evening.
