Make clay beads honoring each living wild bison in North America with artist Cannupa Hanska Luger for Census – Bison Bead Project.
As part of Craft in America’s initiative, Handwork: Celebrating American Craft 2026, visiting artist Cannupa Hanska Luger invites the Tyler community to make beads representing over 500,000 living bison in the form of 36 life-size sculptures. The Bison Bead Project stems from Luger’s Counting Coup social engagement series, which engages collective making to build large-scale collaborations that lend humanity to abstract data and connect us in the process. While onsite, the artist will facilitate bead-making workshops for the students and community to help contribute to this massive project.
Please join Luger on the following days to make beads together and talk. All are welcome to join at any time during these hours
- Monday, November 2nd, 12pm–4pm
- Tuesday, November 3rd, 11am–4pm
- Thursday, November 5th, 1pm–5pm
