Glen Guarino
Glen Guarino’s love for working with wood began when he was nine years old after visiting his uncle in England. His functional sculpture lives in the shared space where the values of aesthetics and function join to make a design greater than its individual parts. Glen’s unique pursuit of beauty is shaped from the mindset that his work can have a dual existence, one that is both an interactive life with all the warmth of home, as well as a unique creative expression of individuality.
I design pieces with the aim to explore the functionality of sculpture; to both augment a space as well as embrace an existence outside of the glass case. For me, my goal is to blur the lines of reason between what we create, and why we create.
After putting himself through undergraduate, Glen earned his Fine Arts Master’s degree in Studio Art from Kean University. He has continued to design and make furniture since 1978 in Cedar Grove, NJ. He taught high school students for over 30 years and is currently teaching at the university level of furniture design. His pieces are in private as well as public collections.
