Grand Opening of the CRAFT IN AMERICA STUDY CENTER featuring artists from Maloof Woodworking. Meet the artists & explore the archives. Saturday, September 12th from 6:00 – 10:00pm. (Los Angeles, CA) CRAFT IN AMERICA is a Los Angeles-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and advancing original handcrafted work, through educational programs in all media, accessible to all. Our goal is to foster appreciation of craftsmanship and to inspire people to explore their own creativity.
The CRAFT IN AMERICA project includes a national prime time PBS documentary series, a 300-page companion book, traveling museum exhibitions, and an extensive website with teachers guides and video clips of artists at work.
This fall, we are expanding our educational mission and opening a Craft in America "Study Center" on West 3rd Street, in the heart of Los Angeles' arts & design district. We will offer our archives of over a thousand books and hundreds of instructional videos for research and “casual study”. And we will host artist lectures, demonstrations and mini-exhibitions. School groups and art enthusiasts will be invited to discover the thrill of the handmade.
“This is a great place for the public to explore the techniques and history of the handmade, and to actually touch the objects and meet the artists,” says Executive Director Carol Sauvion.
The Grand Opening event will be an evening with furniture artists Mike Johnson, Larry White and David Wade who are carrying on the traditions taught to them in over 50 years of working with Sam Maloof. Beautiful Maloof furniture will be on display.
The Craft in America Study Center is located at 8415 W. Third St., 2 blocks East of La Cienega. Wine reception. Please RSVP to info@craftinamerica.org or (310) 659-9022. |
