Christian Burchard (b. 1955) is a woodworker. He is most known for his wood turned vessel forms and sculptures. He is self taught on the lathe. His wood of choice is Pacific Mandrone burl because as it dries, it warps, allowing the wood to take its own shape.
He apprenticed to a furniture maker in Germany, attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Emily Carr College in Vancouver. His work can be found in the collection of the Museum of Art and Design, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Renwick Gallery, the Wood Turning Center, and the De Young Museum, among others.
