Janet Lipkin (b. 1948) is a textile artist in Northern California. She helped define wearable art in the 1970s and is one of the founders of the ARTWEAR movement. She graduated from Pratt Institute with Jean Cacicedo. At the time, Pratt Institute did not have a fiber curriculum so her pieces were analyzed in terms of design and composition.
Although she mostly worked in clothing, her pieces were very sculptural, focusing on the form. Lipkin is drawn to natural motifs (pods and flowers and such), but incorporates bold, dominant colors in her palette, and bold strokes in her lacey layering.
