Kazuko Matthews

Kazuko Matthews (b. 1934) is a ceramic artist. Using slabs of clay and handbuilding techniques, she creates pots, vessels, tables and architectural murals. Her decoration is influenced by Japanese aesthetic and calligraphy as well as nature.

She received her A.A. from Mt. San Antonio College and her B.F.A. from Chouinard Art Institute, where she studied with Otto and Vivika Heino. Following a career in graphic design, she chose to study ceramics at Santa Monica College and Scripps College. Her work can be found in the collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Oakland Museum of California, and Scripps College, among others.
