Karen Koblitz

Karen Koblitz (b. 1951, Hollywood, CA) has been working in ceramics for over 30 years. She received her BFA from California College of Arts and Crafts and her MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is Head of the Ceramics Area in the Roski School of Fine Arts at the University of Southern California.

Her work pays homage to the functional roots of ceramics while elaborating on historical and decorative elements. Her ceramics have been exhibited throughout the United States as well as in Russia, Azerbaijan, Switzerland, Italy and Australia.

Her work is in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Renwick Gallery of American Art of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, and the Contemporary Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii. The US Embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan recently purchased two of her works for their permanent collection.

In September 2007, her work will be featured in a solo exhibition, "Facing East," at the L2kontemporary Gallery in Los Angeles, California.
